AED installation

The use of automated external defibrillators (AED) is essential to increase the chances of survival in case of a cardiac arrythmias such as ventricular fibrillation (VF) and non-perfusing ventricular tachycardia (VT) when used in the first 10 minutes.

AMC1 CAT.IDE.A.220 (b) (4) stipulates that the aircraft operators should carry automated external defibrillator (AED) on board all aircraft equipped with a first-aid kit and required to carry at least one cabin crew.

AED Philips Heartstart FRx 861304/Heartsine Samaritan PAD 350

Automatic External Defibrillators (AED) are becoming more and more commonly available in our daily life.

Recognized national health institutes in several countries currently advises these AED.

As a result of this, operators are requested by these health institutes to install this AED equipment on board of the aircraft.

Further AMC1 CAT.IDE.A.220 (b) (4) was issued with additional guidance, which is further detailed in FAQ n.19169, issued by EASA (https://www.easa.europa.eu/faq/19169)

 

Although the AED units are widely spread for civil use, DOA 160 certification for aerospace use is sometimes difficult to prove.

 

Fokker Services has successfully completed EMC verification testing on the Fokker 50 and Fokker 70/100 aircraft as well on a Embraer 170/190 and DeHavilland Dash-8 aircraft with the following commercially available model AED:
